"Winter Has Fallen Upon America"
by J Stergis LES
Winter has fallen upon America
Or so they say.
Some harken backward
When things were supposedly better days
But for who?
Me? We? Or just you?
Equality and opportunity never applied to all of us.
Not for women, descendant slaves, or the indigenous?
So it begs to question, whose memories of America do you seek?
Land of the Brave?
Former slaves?
Newer immigrants whose hopes were bleak?
You seemed to have erased the times when America the Great
Stumble through periods of being drunken, violent, and weak
She always needed some measure of exploitation to rise to her feet
Yet, for America to truly become invincible
She needed time to mature her "all men are created equal" principles
It's in these moments that she has stood
Equality and opportunity shifted neighborhoods
And hands
Perhaps the real reason why Western Oligarchs want the minions to disband?
But, now it is up to the common man
To believe, cherish and understand
People are greater working together
No matter our individual pursuits or endeavors
Not man over a woman, or woman over a man
This is what it is to be human.
Soon one day this winter season will come to an end
The twilight of winter, the rebirth of spring will begin
When our surviving descendants look back,
What will they say of us then?
That we humans of today
Were so selfish and hateful in every way
That we nearly destroyed each other
When we are all truly just family and friends?
