"More Than A Woman"

by John S LES  (Featuring the magnificent artwork of Italian artist Antonella Mason)

She was born an angel, some happy daddy's little girl
From her tiny cradle, she's some mommy's precious pearl
From her first footsteps, she soon will travel the world

In the beginning she's open for knowledge and love.
There's no question that she's a gift from the heaven's above.
In good time she will evolve into a woman to be proud of.

What is it to be more than a woman, this little girl will soon learn one day.
Everything that life summons, she will live many lives as she finds her way.
One day she will be more than just a woman.

God blessed this angel, this smiling precious child.
Look at her dancing, her imaginations running wild.

Love and the breath of life will shine inside her heart.
Soon she will be a teenager, and ready to dance into the stars.

And as time goes on, she will make decisions on her own.
Soon the day will come when she outgrow the place she once called home.

What is it to be more than a woman, this little girl will soon learn one day
Everything that life summons, she will live many lives as she finds her way
One day she will be more than just a woman...

The day she came into my life, well nothing has ever been the same
I knew one day she'd be my wife, and I would forever call her name.

Until I saw how deep was her love, I never knew this pleasure from my pain.
When a woman gives you her trust, you feel her touch run through your veins.

She becomes the guiding light through the clouds and the rain.
She keeps family together through the stress and the strain.

What is it to be more than a woman, this little girl will soon learn one day
Everything that life summons, she will live many lives as she finds her way
One day she will be more than just a woman...

  1. The beginning of this poem reminded me of my little girl that is now in heaven. We named her Trinity before we knew she would live for three days. Women are more important than we most times get credit for. This was special to me and touched my heart.

    1. Thank you LBreezy for sharing such a heartfelt reaction and memory. Some of my friends and family have read your response and I can tell you that all of us send our prayers and love to you and your family for your loss. Your precious baby is still with you and thank you for sharing her with us. We all felt her in your words.

    2. LBreezy, thank you for sharing this. yes I felt also touched by this beginning. Think more parents will recognize this. Mommy's need to be strong, women are supposed to be.
Its not easy to find people who understand your grief, so if you ever want to talk about it, let me know...

    3. I am so sorry Ms. Anonymous! I hope that you will get my awfully late response. For whatever tech reasons, not all my notifications for online responses get sent to my email in a timely fashion and I was overwhelmed this past October for my "Mirror Mirror" poem which I released on the 1st of October. It just so happens that Ms. Breezy has reached out to me prior to and since this poem, via email, as she has read some of my earlier work. Please do accept my apology for your compliments and willingness to reach out to anyone of my friends or readers on here. Once again, I hope that you get this message and I truly apologize for it's extreme tardiness. I'm always available at NYEastside.info@gmail.com.

    1. Thank you Shelia! I really do appreciate your kind words! As much as I like this poem and the final rendition, I have to say that my upcoming poem "Mirror Mirror" really has me excited. This poem will deal with the issues of breast cancer and female body image. It came to me as a challenge from a friend. I hope that you will enjoy this upcoming poem just as much if not more. October is breast cancer awareness month. I wanted to create something, a positive energy, words, visuals that will last forever. So thank you again and keep checking back for my upcoming "Mirror Mirror" poem.
